NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — An intense manhunt ended with a suspect dead in a police involved shooting in Norwich Tuesday night.
According to police, a hold in place was requested for the Greenville section of Norwich at around 7 p.m. while officers searched for 25-year-old Brandon Uzialko, an “armed and dangerous” suspect who was wanted for attempted murder and home invasion.
State Police say during the search, Uzialko exchanged gunfire with Norwich officers before fleeing on foot. Uzialko was found several hours later by the State Police Tactical Team in the area of 13 Prospect Street and was pronounced dead on scene.Related: Norwich police search for man accused in brutal stabbing
Police first started searching for Uzialko on Saturday after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.The victim was seriously injured, but survived.
Detectives from Eastern District Major Crime have responded to the scene and have assumed the investigation. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of Uzialko’s death.Related: Police: Armed man wanted in Norwich home invasion, stabbing
Officials say Greenville residents may now move normally through the area and that there is no continued threat to the community.
State police say the name of the officer involved is being withheld at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
