Electric Boat holds recruitment event for veterans

New London

GROTON, Conn.(WTNH) — The call has gone out to veterans who would like a career in submarine shipbuilding.

Electric Boat held its first ever recruitment event targeting veterans for a number of positions. The Groton shipbuider is seeking shipfitters, electricians, outside machinists, carpenters, and more. Those who don’t have experience could be directed to local training programs.

“If a veteran, he or she, is not ready for work at EB or does not have the translatable skills that we’re looking for right now we will point them in the direction of some of the service providers that are here to provide training,” said Anthony Paolino of Electric Boat Military and Veterans Affairs.

“For this to go down today on a day like this it’s historical because for the simple fact you got people coming out of the military just not having jobs. It’s really looking for the opportunity to keep working keep providing giving back,” said Carl Townsend, Sailor.

The job fair, hosted by UConn’s Veterans Affairs and Military Programs organization at the Avery Point campus, was just the first of many to come.
