Fire in New London’s Fort Trumbull neighborhood under investigation

New London

Investigators are now trying to figure out what sparked a destructive fire in New London’s Fort Trumbull neighborhood.

The fire broke out around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday on the waterfront property.

When firefighters arrived, flames had already taken over the second and third floors of an abandoned brick building.

“It’s too early to tell what the cause of the fire is at this point and we just begun that process, whether someone was living in there… It’s a vacant building, and it is possible that someone was living in there, but we’re looking at that right now,” explained New London Fire Marshal Vernon Skau.

The fire marshal said no firefighters were injured and none of the boats which were stored on the property away from the building were damaged.
