More allegations of inappropriate misconduct by New London school staff

New London

Much of the recent concern about student safety comes after the arrest of Corriche Gaskin. He is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student at the Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, where he worked as a climate specialist.

Now News8 is learning of three more people are under investigation for their conduct with students.

“Yes we’re all angry. I’m even more angry that they look like me and they have done this,” said Curtis K. Goodwin who is the director of the New London Talent Show.

He went to school with members of Corriche Gaskin’s family and knows two of the three high school staff members who were put on paid administrative leave over concerns about alleged inapropriate conduct.

We do know their names but are not releasing them because they have not been criminally charged.

The first person who is a Music Teacher and Band Director at New London High School received a suspension letter stating “a concern was reported to the Department of Children and Families and the school administration regarding your conduct with a student(s).”

The second person who is a Paraprofessional at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School and Track Volunteer at the High School was put on leave after concerns “alleging you have interacted inappropriately with a student(s).”

The same allegation was launched against a Long-Term Substitute Teacher at New London High School.

Goodwin says he was surprised by the accusations against those he knew. “I was,” he said.

“Unfortunately these people are in positions of course they shouldn’t be and you have to ask why,” said Laurie Percy of New London.

Many will be able to ask why tonight.

Goodwin has organized a community forum with members of the school department, board of education, police department, and city at the Garde Arts Center where the community can be heard.

“Come out be angry, vent, but most of all seek solutions,” said Gaskin. “You have to seek a solution after you’re angry.”

New London Police tells News8 their investigation has expanded since the initial complaint at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School.
