One child, adult injured in structure fire in Norwich

New London

Shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday night the Norwich Fire Department responded to 22 McKinley Avenue in Norwich for a second alarm fire.

Crews on scene say there are large flames on the second and third floors of the building.

According to fire officials, one child and one adult have minor burn injuries. Both are expected to be ok.

A witness tells us it started by a cell phone charging on a bed. Investigators have not pinned down a cause yet.

Neighbors say a family with kids lived on one side of the house. The other side lived an 83-year-old woman who owned the house.

God bless her. She just lost her husband not too long ago. Flames were huge. I was scared, said neighbor, Beverly Taylor.

Everyone was able to run out of the home in time.  Neighbors are just relieved everyone will be ok.

That’s sad. I hope they can find a place to live, said neighbor, Brian Wilson.

I’m just glad everybody got out because that’s scary, said Dorothy Johnson.

The scene was cleared at 2:38 a.m.
