OLD LYME, Conn. (WTNH)– State Police have identified the two women who were killed in a fiery multi-vehicle crash on I-95 north in Old Lyme Wednesday afternoon.
Police say just before 2 p.m., a tractor trailer truck, driven by 58-year-old Francis Cosenza, of East Haven, was stopped in the right lane of I-95 north between exits 70 and 71 due to a traffic backup.Related: Interstate 95 reopens in Old Lyme following double fatal crash
A Ford Mustang, driven by 71-year-old Eleanor McCarthy, of Guilford, was stopped behind the tractor trailer when a dump truck traveling in the same lane was unable to stop and collided with the Ford Mustang. The Ford Mustang spun during the impact and then crashed into the rear of the tractor trailer, before it burst into flames.
McCarthy and her passenger, 71-year-old Iris Cooper, of Pennsylvania, died from their injuries sustained in the crash.

Cosenza was not hurt in the collision. The driver of the dump truck, 47-year-old Gregory Kuzma, of Bristol, and his passenger 60-year-old Antonio Felix, of Hartford,were also not injured.
The highway was closed for several hours following the accident. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
