Willimantic woman killed in head-on crash involving ambulance in Franklin

FRANKLIN, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut State Police are investigating a fatal head-on crash involving an ambulance on Route 32 in Franklin late Thursday evening.

State police responded to Pleasure Hill Road on Route 32 just before 11 p.m. Thursday to a vehicle crash involving an ambulance and another vehicle.

State troopers said an ambulance was traveling North on Route 32, while a Toyota Camry was traveling south. They subsequently collided head-on on the northbound side.

The driver and passenger in the ambulance were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The Camry driver, later identified as 49-year-old Dawn Brett of Willimantic, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Life star was called to the scene, but was unable to fly due to the weather.

The road was closed overnight, and has since reopened.
