Several state parks fill to capacity on Memorial Day

This Memorial Day, people were headed to the state parks to enjoy the long weekend in the sun.

Several states reached full parking capacity by midday. This included:

  • Bigelow Hollow State Park in Union; closed to new vehicles as of 1:50 p.m.
  • Burr Pond State Park in Torrington; closed to new vehicles as of 1:35 p.m.
  • Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford; closed to new vehicles as of 1:05 p.m.
  • Kent Falls in Kent; closed to new vehicles as of noon.
  • Miller’s Pond State Park in Durham; closed to new vehicles as of 11:50 a.m.
  • Pattaconk Lake State Recreation Area in Chester; closed to new vehicles as of 11:40 a.m. 
  • Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middletown; closed to new vehicles as of 11:25 a.m.

Thousands sent the day in the parks, at the beach or outside.
