The first full week of Spring, and it’s time for golf season to begin. Tuesday morning marked the official opening of the season at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain.
Even the mayor took a few swings.
It’s taken a lot of work to clean up after a very wet and cold winter.
Howie Friday, PGA Head Golf Pro at Stanley Golf Course said, “We actually had snow on the golf course until last Friday underneath the trees and corners and we had some really good wind on Saturday. So, yeah it’s been a challenging week for grounds crews for sure.”
But now it’s time to get out and do some golfing. On the course we met Peter Palmer and his electric golf cart.
He had some great shots…and he had some “first game of the season shots”, but he’s really excited to be able to play again.
Palmer of Newington said, “Oh come on..the weather. Not sitting in the house waiting for snow so I can push snow. That’s all there is to do…that and watch [News 8].”
We appreciate the viewership and we also appreciate the honesty!
One good shot, one bad shot…we’ll play it as it goes. It’s too early to be good!
Now don’t forget it is still springtime golf so club up, bring some warm clothes, and it may not be the best idea to keep score for the next couple of weeks.
