(WTNH) — Positioned alongside the waters of the Long Island Sound, Connecticut’s southern border has faced devastation due to flooding in storms, including powerful hurricanes. 

Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy most recently wrecked havoc in the state causing millions of dollars of damage caused by high winds and flooding.

June 1st marks the start of Atlantic hurricane season running until November 30th and preparedness ahead of the season can help save lives as well as property.

On Monday, May 6th at 1 p.m., Storm Team 8 will be live from the 2019 East Coast Hurricane Awareness Tour at Quonset State Airport in Rhode Island. Join us for a special ‘Hurricane Watch: The Path to Preparedness’ live stream online and in the News 8 app.

Storm Team 8 Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons, Meteorologist Joe Furey and Meteorologist Ashley Baylor in partnership with meteorologists from our sister station, WPRI in Providence, will be showcasing the Hurricane Hunter aircraft, speaking to the National Weather Service and providing information about what you can do to get ready for the 2019 hurricane season.
