1 person dead in Ellington vehicle accident

A man has died early Sunday morning in Ellington following a motor vehicle crash, according to Connecticut State Police.

An accident report shows that the crash was reported around 12:56 a.m. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Sean Ruel, a 26-year-old from Ellington. Police had Route 140 closed at Hopkins Road for most of the morning, but reopened it at 8:30 a.m.

The accident involved a single car. Accident reconstruction investigators said Ruel was traveling westbound on Crystal Lake Road in the right lane of two, west of its intersection with Webster Road, and failed to negotiate a curve, then struck an embankment off the right shoulder of the westbound lane.

Ruel was pronounced dead on scene. State Police said he was wearing a seat belt.
