VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) — A teenager barricaded himself in a Vernon apartment with a machete Friday evening after escaping from the Rockville Hospital Emergency Department, police say.

According to police, the unidentified teen was seen running into a Union Street home around 5:50 p.m., barricading himself in a bedroom. They say he was thought to be suicidal and armed with the sword.

A state police K-9 team took the teen into custody around 7:15 p.m. and recovered the machete. They say he only received superficial injuries while being taken into custody. No one else was hurt.

The teen was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for treatment, according to officials. They say no criminal charges have been filed.
