(WTNH) — It turns out the coronavirus has encouraged more people to get outside and hike!

Connecticut’s Trail Census says they saw an uptick in hikers compared to this same time last year. Overall, three-quarters of the trails that take part in the study saw a spike of more than 50 percent compared to April and May of 2019.

“The trend of increased trail use occurring simultaneously with the March outbreak of COVID-19 is continuing,” observed Charles Tracy, Coordinator for the Trail Census.
