The Canterbury Fire Deportment says 12 dogs were killed in a large structure fire in Canterbury on Thursday afternoon.

Two adult dogs and a litter of 10 puppies died in the three-alarm fire, which broke out in a building in the area of Route 14 and Route 169.

Fire crews did not say what have started the blaze.

The Red Cross is assisting one family impacted by the fire.

No humans were reported hurt in the fire.
