It ended with the discovery of a 77-year-old woman found dead inside.
This tragedy happened just after 6:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Regina Asklar was inside when the flames broke out and she could not escape.
News 8 viewer Timothy Kussow captured footage of thick smoke pouring out of the home at 344 Scotland Road.
Crews managed to put this fire out, but when they did, that’s when they found Asklar deceased.
“Upon our arrival, we tried to make an aggressive attack. But, due to the fire conditions, we had to pull back and do a defensive attack,” Chief Lloyd Niles said. “For the conditions we were up against, everybody did a tremendous job.”
There is no word yet on how the fire started.
The Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit and the State Police Major Crime Unit are investigating.
