PD: Plainfield man arrested for assault after threatening woman with a knife

PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) - A Plainfield man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting and threatening a woman with a knife. 

Officials arrested 45-year-old Michael Mattingly on Wednesday morning.

At approximately 1:00 a.m., members of the Plainfield Police Department were dispatched in response to an assault between a man and a woman occurring on South Chestnut Street in the Wauregan section of Plainfield.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a 29-year-old woman, who stated that her friend, Mattingly, had assaulted her, threatened her with a knife, and restrained her from leaving the property. The victim was able to evade Mattingly, who allegedly proceeded to chase her until she was able to seek shelter at a nearby residence and contact police. 

Officials say they located Mattingly at his residence where he refused to provide information regarding the incident. Mattingly was placed under arrest and charged with Assault in the 3rd Degree, Unlawful Restraint, Disorderly Conduct, and Threatening in the 2nd Degree. 

Mattingly is being held on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 25th.
