Connecticut drivers looking for a break at the pump during the holiday season may have their wish come true.
According to AAA Northeast, the average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gas in Connecticut is $2.85 as of Monday, and lower gas prices could continue through December. Connecticut gas prices are 3 cents lower compared to this time last week, as well as last month.
The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular nationally is $2.56, 7 cents lower compared to this time last week and even lower compared to last month, according to the AAA report.

“Trends indicate that December may bring some of the cheapest gas prices of the year,” said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman. “As long as the price of crude doesn’t spike, we may see lower prices by year’s end.”
However, market observers warn that crude prices may increase after OPEC‘s December 6 meeting.
Hawaii and California hold the highest average per-gallon prices in the nation with $3.76 and $3.62. Connecticut is ranked 11th on the list.
