PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A new Forbes study on the price of weed in each U.S. state revealed the states where recreational marijuana is legal are also the cheapest places to buy, and Oregon tops the list.

“They warned us this would happen,” Forbes writer Frank Bi wrote. “The states where recreational marijuana use is legal are also the states where marijuana is least expensive.”

In Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Alaska, an ounce of weed costs less than $300 per ounce, according to the site PriceofWeed.com. The website evaluates anonymous submissions from marijuana users to determine price levels of marijuana by state.

The national average for an ounce of weed costs $324. In Oregon – the state with the lowest prices – an ounce of high quality cannabis reportedly goes for just $204.

The most expensive marijuana in the country is sold in North Dakota, where prices reach around $387 an ounce.
