As you get ready to make those online purchases, there is a warning from lawmakers about deceptive apps.

At a news conference on Monday morning, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal says that parents should be on the lookout for apps that target children.

Blumenthal says that some of them manipulate kids into making purchases and then share their personal information illegally.

“These apps collect information that enable them to track children, tracking them geographically by sometimes locating them on the internet. So they collect personal details about names, emails addresses, as well as geographic locations,” said Blumenthal.

The senator is now calling on the Federal Trade Commission to investigate marketing that’s embedded in apps that are designed for children.
