Boston man dead following rollover crash on I-95 in Stonington


STONINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A man from Boston, MA is dead following a rollover crash on I-95 north in Stonington Sunday.

The crash was reported in the northbound lane to DOT at about 4 p.m.

The road closure was between Exits 90 and 91, according to the Department of Transportation. For several hours Sunday, both the southbound and northbound lanes were closed due to the crash.

LIFE STAR was requested, but did not fly.

State Police have identified the victim of the crash as 29-year-old Leander Nathan Ortega, from Boston, MA.

Police say, as he was passing two vehicles from the right to the left lane, Ortega’s vehicle collided with each and crashed into the median. Ortega’s car struck a tree. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

One other operator in another car was transported to L&M Hospital in New London for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway has reopened in both directions after being shutdown in this area for hours.
