Bristol Police warn residents of spike in car break-ins, thefts

Crime

BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH)– Bristol Police are sending out a warning to residents after a recent spike in car break-ins and thefts.

To reduce these thefts, Bristol Police suggest that you always:

  • Keep your car doors locked.
  • Make sure to take any valuables out of your vehicle.
  • Never leave key fobs that can start the vehicle, or the car or house keys inside your vehicle

Homeowners are also urged to consider installing outside lighting that will illuminate vehicles parked in driveways.

Police also remind residents that if your car is stolen, there is a possibility that it could be used in a crime or damaged beyond repair. They also say you may experience a difficult time in settling a claim with your auto-insurance carrier if your keys were left inside the vehicle.
