Burglars target stores in Naugatuck and Middlebury

Crime

Naugatuck police need your help in identifying suspects accused of robbing businesses in Naugatuck and Middlebury on Christmas day.

Police were dispatched just after 1:00am Tuesday to the Sunoco gas station on 531 North Main Street for a report of a burglary.

Officers arrived and discovered the front glass to be kicked in. Officials say someone stole 60 cartons of Newport cigarettes from the store.

Several minutes before this robbery, the Mobil gas station on Route 63 in Middlebury was also broken into by smashing a glass door. Approximately 70 packs of Newport cigarettes were also taken from this location.

Police have released photos of two suspects taken in action during the Middlebury burglary. Investigators don’t have a vehicle description, but say it appears the suspect may have parked by Riverside Motors in the Naugatuck burglary.

If you have any information on these robberies, you are urged to contact the Naugatuck Police Department (203) 729-5221 or the department’s confidential tipline at (203) 720-1010.
