A Connecticut driver who struck and killed a pedestrian and then left the scene has been sentenced to serve more than four years in prison.

The New Haven Register reports that 35-year-old Edward Santomassimo, of East Haven, was sentenced Tuesday after previously pleading guilty to charges including evading responsibility resulting in death.

Police say Santomassimo was driving a pickup truck on the night of Dec. 3, 2016 when he struck 59-year-old Lynn Travisano, of East Haven, as she tried to cross a street.

Travisano, a mother of two and a grandmother of two, was pronounced dead at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Police say when Santomassimo was pulled over, his truck had front end damage and “a substance consistent with remains of the human body on the front bumper and grille.”
