HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– A Department of Public Works employee was arrested Thursday in connection with a shooting in Hartford last month.
Police say on July 9th, officers responded to the Blue Five Corners convenience store at 214 Westland Street in response to a shooting in the outside parking lot. After an investigation, it was determined that Stacy Asberry, of Hartford was one of the suspects in the shooting.
Police say surveillance footage showed Asberry exchanging gunfire with another suspect, who has not yet been charged at this time.
On Thursday evening, Asberry agreed to meet with detectives and was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with Criminal Attempt Assault, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Carrying a Pistol w/out a Permit, Weapons in a Motor Vehicle, and Reckless Endangerment. Asberry was held on a $200,000 bond.
Asberry is currently employed with the Department of Public Works in Hartford. He is now on unauthorized, unpaid leave. His status and this incident will be reviewed by the DPW next week.
The incident remains under investigation.
