East Haven Police searching for suspect who allegedly robbed Stop and Shop store with a taser

Crime

The East Haven Police Department are looking to identify a suspect who allegedly committed a robbery using a taser at the Stop and Shop in East Haven.

Police say that at approximately 2:04 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Stop and Shop store on 370 Hemingway Avenue in East Haven.

According to police, a man displayed and activated a taser on an employee who attempted to prevent the shoplifting, escalating the incident to a robbery. The taser was activated and the suspect advised the employee to step away.

Police say the Stop and Shop employee was not hit by the taser. The suspect then fled into the parking lot in a black 2005 Ford Escape with gray bumpers with the items, which police learned was $150 worth of meat.

The suspect walking through the parking lot in one of the photos appears to be a heavy set Hispanic man wearing a heavy black coat, baseball hat, dark blue or black jeans and white sneakers.

Photos of the suspect’s car and the suspect are provided.
