HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Hartford man will be behind bars for distributing heroin.
Officials say 30-year-old Luis Ortiz was sentenced on Tuesday to 46 months of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release.
According to court documents and statements made in court, in September and October, 2014, FBI agents and Hartford police conducted 10 controlled purchases of heroin from Ortiz.
He was arrested on Oct. 30, 2014 following a search of Ortiz’s apartment. During the search, officials say they located quantities of fentanyl and heroin, a digital scale, heroin packaging stamps, and a grinder used to process heroin.
While being released on bond to participate in a drug rehabilitation program, Ortiz fled to Puerto Rico where he was arrested on June 23, 2016.
Ortiz has been detained since his arrest and previously pleaded guilty to one count of maintaining a drug involved premises, and one count of escape.
