Man gets 10 years for sex trafficking of 15-year-old girl

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – A Hartford man is headed to prison for the sex trafficking of a 15-year-old girl in motels two years ago.

Twenty-four-year-old Romane McKenzie was sentenced Monday in New Haven to 10 years behind bars. He pleaded guilty in August to one count of sex trafficking a minor.

Prosecutors say McKenzie sold crack cocaine to the girl, purchased motel rooms for her in Enfield and purchased ads for her on internet sites that advertise prostitution.

Authorities say a police officer responded to an ad that featured the teen in 2014. The girl was taken into custody. McKenzie was also arrested.

McKenzie faces deportation to his native Jamaica when he’s released from federal prison. He said in court he accepts “responsibility for his actions.”
