Police say that at 9:45 p.m., officers received a report of an armed robbery at the Mayflower Motel, at 219 Woodmont Road, where the clerk had been struck in the face with a gun.
An investigation revealed that a man had baited the clerk out from the back office by claiming that the lobby microwave was broken. When the victim responded, the man grabbed them by the neck and pointed a gun in their face.
The clerk allegedly fought back but was hit in the face with the gun and thrown across the room, causing them to lose consciousness. The victim was later evaluated at a local hospital for their non-life threatening injuries.
According to police, the suspect then took the cash register and other items from the office, before fleeing across the street to a car that was waiting for him.
Through an investigation, that vehicle’s information was obtained and led to the arrests of 51-year-old Elben Quinones, and 34-year-old Melanie Lugo, both of Bridgeport.
Both were found at a Bridgeport motel on Tuesday and were taken into custody. Quinones told police that he only had a BB gun but it was not found during the search of the motel room.
Both Quinones and Lugo were both charged with assault on an elderly person, robbery, larceny and conspiracy to commit on those charges.
Quinones was held on a $500,000 bond, while Lugo was held on a $250,000 bond.
