Two men were arrested on burglary charges after allegedly breaking into a West Haven home while a young girl was inside on Monday afternoon.

Police say that just before 3:30 p.m., officers responded to 151 Church Street where they were approached by a young girl who was running from the area, stating that someone was trying to break through the front door of her home.

When officers entered her residence, they found the two suspects, later identified as  67-year-old Talib Al-Din, of New Haven, and 61-year-old Clifton Spellman, of West Haven, inside.

While the two men attempted to flee from police, they were apprehended on scene with jewelry taken from that home on one of the suspects and an “air soft style gun.”

Police say they also recovered numerous other suspected stolen items on scene and in a vehicle, which was found in a nearby parking lot.

Spellman and Al-Din were arrested and charged with burglary, larceny, criminal mischief, interfering with an officer, and carrying a dangerous weapon

Both were held on bond.

No one was injured. The incident remains under investigation.
