PD: ‘Armed and dangerous’ man wanted for murder of woman in New Britain

New Britain police are searching for the man who allegedly shot and killed a woman who he was in a relationship with on Monday evening.

Police say that just before 6 p.m., officers responded to 39 Elam Street for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found a 27-year-old woman who had been shot multiple times.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she later died of her injuries. Her identity has not yet been released.

Investigators have identified 42-year-old Benjamin Morales as a suspect in this case. Morales knew the victim based on a domestic relationship and lives at the home where she was found shot.

Michelle Hector Ortiz has been in hiding, she is worried the man that shot her sister will come after her family next.

“Right now we are really tense on him getting caught, and he threatened my family before and my mom, and it’s like really hard.”

Michelle says her sister was in the process of leaving Morales when he shot her.

An arrest warrant has been obtained for Morales charging him with murder, but police say his whereabouts are unknown at this time.

Morales is described as a light skinned Hispanic man, who is 5’6″ tall. He also has brown hair and brown eyes.

Police say that Morales is considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact authorities at 860-826-3000.
