Crime

A 63-year-old West Haven man was arrested after allegedly seriously injuring a motorcyclist in a road rage incident in Orange on Saturday.

Police say that just before 5:30 p.m., officers responded to Route 34 westbound for an accident between an SUV and a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider had landed in the roadway and lost his helmet, suffering a life-threatening head injury.

The driver of the SUV then fled the scene but was later identified as Jerzy Narowski.

Witnesses to the incident told police that Narowski and the motorcyclist were arguing with each other on Route 34, when at some point, Narowski swerved his vehicle into the path of the motorcycle.

At first, the motorcyclist was able to maintain travel but then Narowski allegedly swerved at the motorcycle again, striking it. The motorcyclist then lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle, landing in the pavement and losing his helmet.

The victim was treated on scene before he was taken to an area hospital where his identity and current condition are unknown.

Police were able to get a description of the SUV and pulled it over in Derby, where Narowski was taken into custody.

He was arrested and charged with assault, reckless endangerment, improper lane change, reckless driving and evading the scene of an accident.

Narowski was held on a $75,000 bond.

The accident remains under investigation at this time. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact officers at 203.891.2130 x409.
