PD: Plainville man arrested for abusing 2-year-old

PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) — Plainville police have arrested a man who they say was abusing his girlfriend’s two-year-old son.

Police say on October 6, a woman called them saying she thought her live-in boyfriend, 20-year-old Jacob Matthews, was physically abusing her two-year-old son. Matthews is not the boy’s father.

Throughout the investigation, police say they saw bruising on the boy’s face, head, hips and genitalia. The Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) Program at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center said the bruising was consistent with child abuse.

Police got an arrest warrant and arrested Matthews on Tuesday. He is charged with risk of injury to a minor, cruelty to persons, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He is being held on $75,000 bond and is due in court on Wednesday.

Police say the two-year-old is currently in DCF custody.
