PD: Woman arrested for attacking teen girl on CT Transit bus


A 40-year-old woman was arrested Thursday for allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old Hamden girl on a Connecticut Transit bus back in September.

Police say that on September 22nd, a 16-year-old girl got on the bus in the vicinity of Dixwell Avenue and Putnam Avenue when Marquita Mcelya, of New Haven, immediately began to provoke her.

According to the teen, Mcelya made demeaning comments to her before attacking her. The teen reported Mcelya threw a cup of soda at her and then struck her an unknown amount of times with a closed fist.

Mcelya then allegedly bit the teen on her forearm.

The teen suffered injuries to her neck, face and arm in the attack and was taken to a medical facility by a family member for treatment.

After an investigation, police were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Mcelya. She was taken into custody and charged with assault, risk of injury to a minor and disorderly conduct.

Mcelya was held on a $20,000 bond.
