PD: Woman turns herself in after shoplifting from East Haven Stop & Shop

Crime

A woman who was allegedly caught on camera shoplifting from an East Haven Stop & Shop Saturday, has turned herself in to police.

Police say that officers were in the parking lot of that Stop & Shop, accepting donations for the department’s Stuff-A-Cruiser event, when the woman allegedly stole from the grocery store.

She then fled the parking lot in a dark gray Honda Accord.

East Haven police took to their Facebook page to post surveillance photos of the suspect, which were then shared numerous times.

According to police, within two hours of the post, the suspect walked into the police department and turned herself in. She allegedly told officers that it was because of the heat that she was getting from family and friends after the post was shared.

Because the crime happened on Saturday, police say that were unable to take her into custody right away. However, they have identified her and have submitted an arrest warrant so charges are pending.

Police say that once the arrest is made, they will release her identity to the public.
