West Hartford police search for suspect in candy theft

Crime

Police are looking for the man who allegedly stole $90 worth of candy from a West Hartford store before trying to flee on a Lime Bike on Friday morning.

Police say that at around 10:37 a.m., officers responded to the Aldi on New Park Avenue for someone shoplifting.

Upon arrival, officers found a person who matched the suspect description. The suspect was also found to be on a Lime bicycle and would allegedly not stop and comply with police.

An officer then tackled the suspect but the suspect was able to get away on foot. When the officer caught him again and deployed his taser, the suspect was able to fight through the taser and run again, according to police.

A K9 team was then brought in but the suspect is still outstanding. Police say that the $90 worth of candy he allegedly stole from Aldi was recovered by the officer.

The officer sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Police have released surveillance photos in hopes of identifying the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 860-523-5203.
