A Wethersfield family’s dazzling Christmas light display is gaining national attention. The Strycharz’s will be featured on the premiere night of ABC’s the Great Christmas Light Fight, which runs during the network’s 25 Days of Christmas.
John Strycharz says he was seven years old when he fell in love with a local family’s magical Christmas light display.
“I saw it and said I need to do this!” Strycharz told News 8.
Every year since, for the past 13 years, Strycharz has put on his own show and each year it gets bigger and brighter. Last year, ABC noticed and asked the family to be featured on the Great Christmas Light Fight. The Strycharz’s are one of four family’s chosen from around the country for a chance to win $50,000.
“At this point we just do it for tradition, we just want to out do ourselves from the year before,” Strycharz said. “You can expect to see everything you’ve ever seen in a Christmas show. There’s changing lights, moving heads like you see at a rock concert and strobes.”
Since last August, John Strycharz has been perfecting the science behind his display synched to music.
The family will be kicking off their display for everyone to enjoy on Surrey Drive this Saturday at 5:15pm. The display will run each day of the week through the holidays.
“Everyone in the community loves it and I just enjoy seeing people drive-by, love seeing the show with smiles on their faces,” Strycharz said.
