Wednesday is a big day for early childhood, or at least issues surrounding early childhood, at the State Capitol in Hartford.
The Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance is holding a day-long, “Day of Action.” They are pushing to expand the “Care4Kids” program to include parents who are also in school and training to find a job.
The education advocates are also callling for equity and fair wages for pre-school teachers.
“We need equity and fair wages for pre-school teachers and this legislation would accomplish that this year. This is something I’ve been fighting for over the last five years. We also must extend the Care4Kids program to include fulltime students with families. If a parent needs education and training to find a job and contribute to the economy, but can’t afford childcare and has to stay home, no one benefits,” said Rep. Bobby Sanchez (D-New Britain), co-chair of the Education Committee, in a press release.
