NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Fresh off her 14th straight victory in the race for the U.S. House of Representatives 3rd District, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro sat down with News 8.

With her latest win, DeLauro is now the longest serving female representative in Connecticut history, and the second longest serving woman in the House of Representatives.

“It’s the same thrill that it was 26 years ago in 1990, my first race,” said DeLauro on election night. “For the 14th time they have said…they’ve given me another chance, and I’m so terribly grateful.”

Despite the tight race, DeLauro says she believes Hillary Clinton will come out on top.

It’s a tight race, I don’t know why people thought this was just a slam dunk. It’s gone back and forth we know that. I expect Hillary Clinton is going to win this race, but it’s gonna be a long night and I’m confident,” the Congresswoman added.

For her 14th term, the New Haven-based Representative says her outlook is on the economy.

“People need to have a job and they need to have rising incomes. That is the biggest challenge that we have today and that’s what I want to focus my time and attention on, because people are working hard. Everyone is in the workforce, but they are struggling to be able to take care of their families,” she said.

DeLauro will be swore into her fourteenth term on January 3rd.
