Black Hog Brewing is a destination in Oxford, but do you know the story behind their name?
The group of friends who came together to create this brewery love to throw pig roast big parties with friends and family and the specific type of pig they’d roast is called a black hog.
“It’s kind of friends, family, food, beer good times all wrapped up into a nutshell,” said Tyler Jones, co-owner of Black Hog Brewing.
The name pays homage to how good food and great beer brings everyone together.
“We extend that family vibe into our tasting room,” Jones added.
Black Hog is known to collaborate with local chefs on recipes, and they encourage people to use their beer with food, both for cooking and pairing.
In Connecticut’s beer boom, Black Hog was one of the earlier arrivals, and Jones says he loves the way the brewery scene has evolved in Connecticut. “It’s great. Everyone’s becoming hyperlocal,” he said. “It used to be eat local, drink local, now everyone has a brewery in their own little community, and that’s what breweries were.”
