Let’s head to the Naugatuck Valley; our Destination Location is Derby!
Its spot along the Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers made it a great spot for manufacturing. One of those former factory spaces, the Manger Die Casting Company, was built in 1904. The century-old building has found new life as the home of Bad Sons Beer Company. Their love for the Naugatuck Valley is right in the name: it’s an acronym for Beacon Falls, Ansonia, Derby, Shelton, Oxford, Naugatuck and Seymour.
The brewery has been open since summer 2017, but co-owner and brewer Mark DaSilva had been eyeing up the building for years. “I started talking to the old owner, the Manger family, about when they were ready to retire to be able to take the building over,” said DaSilva, “because this building is just a perfect building for a brewery today. It’s almost like it was built in 1904 to be a brewery today.”
