Destinaton Location: Manchester

News 8 took a “trip” to the Silk City! The town of Manchester is today’s Destination Location featured in our 9 a.m. ‘Good Morning Connecticut’ newscast.

At one time, Manchester was home to the world’s largest silk mill. The 175-acre area, now known as the Cheney Brothers Historic District, is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The town isn’t just known for silk: The Hilliard Mills supplied wool for a suit that George Washington wore to his inauguration.

Here’s what our viewers in Manchester had to say:

“Grady Tavern!!!! Ask for Pete the owner!! The Swedish Meatballs are to die for!!! And hands down the best burger around!!!” says Mike Andy.

“Bush Hill Preserve, 330 Bush Hill Road, 75 acres of open space/trails for everyone’s enjoyment – saved from development by the Manchester land conservation trust” says Colin McNamara.
