News 8 took a “trip” to the Silk City! The town of Manchester is today’s Destination Location featured in our 9 a.m. ‘Good Morning Connecticut’ newscast.
At one time, Manchester was home to the world’s largest silk mill. The 175-acre area, now known as the Cheney Brothers Historic District, is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The town isn’t just known for silk: The Hilliard Mills supplied wool for a suit that George Washington wore to his inauguration.
