VERNON, Conn. (VERNON) — A dog and several reptiles died in a fire in Vernon Thursday, fire officials said.

Fire crews responded to the apartment building on Thomas Street just after 11:30 p.m.

All the residents in the six-apartment building escaped unharmed.

Investigators said the fire appears to have started in a bedroom of one of the units. The cause is under investigation.
