(WTNH) – Businesses in New London and Windham counties will now be able to apply for federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans because of the drought.

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced the assistance on Monday. The drought began in Connecticut on August 2nd.Related Story: Citizens, businesses asked to cut water usage because of drought

“These counties are eligible because they are contiguous to one or more primary counties in Rhode Island. The Small Business Administration recognizes that disasters do not usually stop at county or state lines. For that reason, counties adjacent to primary counties named in the declaration are included,” said Frank Skaggs, director of SBA’s Field Operations Center East in Atlanta.

Farm-related and non-farm related businesses are eligible to apply online, if they suffered financial losses as a direct result of this disaster.

Nurseries are also eligible to apply for economic injury disaster loans for losses caused by drought conditions.
