UNCASVILLE, Conn. (WTNH)– This year’s Vets Rock expo and concert will be held Friday, November 3rd at Mohegan Sun. And the headliner for the concert is guitar legend Joe Walsh. You know him best as a member of The Eagles.

News 8 is a proud sponsor of Vets Rock.

Joe Walsh is a huge get for the folks at Vets Rock and Mohegan Sun. But, the concert is just one part of a daylong event that’s dedicated to all things veterans. Lots of new things happening this year. Here’s what you can expect.

Thousands of veterans are coming together for a day of opportunity and recognition that’s Vets Rock. With less than two months to go until Vets Rock 2017, the excitement is building.

“This year we are all in on helping the USO. The USO is an organization that every veteran or family member of a veteran knows about. They’re a worldwide organization. They provide support to soldiers and families in far-flung dusty locations and here at home,” said Kevin Brown, Chairman, Mohegan Tribal Council.

Kevin Brown is the chairman of the Mohegan Tribe and one of the driving forces behind Vets Rock. Heading into its third year, the daylong event consists of two main attractions. First, there’s a career fair and expo held in the ballroom, free to veterans from all over New England.

“I’ll give you a snip it from last year. I would have people walk up to me on the concourse and say, and just stop me and say, hey I just want to thank you. I mean, the energy that this thing provides, it reaches out and it touches the hearts of veterans with all of the great and wonderful things that are going on,” said Brown.

This was Vets Rock 2016. Like last year, more than 100 employers will pack the ballroom. More than 50 veteran’s services organizations will also be there.

“The U.S. Department of Chambers partners with us with a Hiring Our Heroes job fair where over 100 local, regional and some national employers. That will literally take a resume, possibly do an interview and maybe even provide a job that very day right here in the ballroom,” said Brown.

The day culminates with the Vets Rock concert. More than 8,000 people will pack the arena. The show once again hosted by Tony Orlando.

This year’s headliner, Joe Walsh. Singer, songwriter and guitarist for The Eagles. The Rock And Roll Hall of Famer’s father was a test pilot and died in active duty when Walsh was just a baby.

“He never got to know his father and he has always been attune to veteran’s issues and helping support reintegration. So it’s a perfect marriage when you think about it of Mohegan Sun and all of our efforts to help vets, the USO, and a guy like Joe Walsh who wants to come to the table. All of that supported by American Airlines whose gonna fly soldiers in from all around the country. It’s gonna be a great, great day,” said Walsh.

The goal this year is to help thousands of veterans have a brighter future and raise $100,000 for the USO in the process.

Chairman Brown estimates within the next two years more than 10,000 vets will have benefited from their efforts and that’s a number he hopes keeps climbing.

“We’ve been at conflict for a protracted amount of time with the Middle East, now going on about 15 years. It’s going to take 15 years to continue to sustain the support required to our veterans. So you should look forward to this event occurring at Mohegan Sun every November for a long time to come,” said Brown.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. and a reminder it is open to the public. They want everybody to come on out and support our vets.
