PHOTOS: Heatwave in Antarctica melts glaciers in just 11 days

Environment

(CNN) — NASA released two photos of Antarctica to show the dramatic effect a heat-wave had on the coldest continent on Earth.

The images show the melting on the ice cap of Eagle Island. The quick warm spell caused widespread melting not just on Eagle Island, but also on nearby glaciers.

According to the space agency, the differences in these two photos occurred within eleven days in early February. The heatwave ended around February 13.
