NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTHN)–After the recent New York and New Jersey bombings, police in the state are on high alert.

Extra officers and bomb sniffing dogs were brought in New Haven’s union station. It also had state police asking passengers to be on the look out.

A security expert at the University of New Haven says if you see someone drop a bag or box, just call police.

This expert says a lot of people will want to look at the bag because they don’t want to waste police time, but to fight the urge and go for safety.

When you hear or see something, say something.

Department of National Security of University of New Haven, Jibey Asthappan, says people should be looking for suspicious activity of someone placing a package.

“They should be looking for suspicious activity someone who is placing a package somewhere and walking away from it. Someones that looking to see if there are security cameras. Looking for where law enforcement might be. The package they drop could be something small or it could be something small. It could be a backpack. it could be a box.”
