LOWELL, Mass. (AP) – A Lowell father has been charged with violently shaking his 3-month-old daughter, allegedly causing serious injuries, because she wouldn’t stop crying.
Thirty-year-old Anthony Mansolilli pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Lowell to assault and battery on a child causing substantial injury.
Prosecutors say police responded to a 911 call from Mansolilli’s apartment on Nov. 6. Authorities say the child was found unresponsive and rushed to a Boston hospital where a CT scan revealed she was suffering from bleeding on the brain and other head injuries. Officials say the child survived but remains hospitalized.
Police say Mansolilli admitted to officers that he “lost control” and shook the girl when her cries got louder.
Mansolilli’s attorney tells The Sun this is a situation where a young parent didn’t know how to react.
