The Department of Homeland Security and FBI says they are ready to protect our votes from foreign hackers in next month’s midterm election.
Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill says America needs to be prepared for another attack this November.
She wants to make sure that neither Russia nor China nor any other foreign agent can hack our election systems and mess with our votes.
FBI Director Christopher Wray says the FBI has been preparing for Election Day for two years.
“The threats we face as a nation have never been greater,” he said.
Wray says the bureau’s Foreign Influence Task Force is constantly monitoring and tracking foreign hackers.
“We are talking about counterintelligence, cyber, criminal and even counter-terrorism to root out and respond to foreign influence operations,” said Wray.
He says it’s an all hands on deck operation and the FBI is working with the Department of Homeland Security to make sure all 50 states are fully prepared and equipped with the safest voting technology.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen says she believes America’s election system is the safest it’s ever been.
“Our network security sensors will cover 90 percent of registered voters and on Election Day we will be out in full force in hosting a virtual nationwide situation room to assist our partners,” Nielsen said.
Nielsen says Americans should be confident their votes are protected and will count on November 6th.
