DERBY, Conn. (WTNH)- Irving School is fighting bullying by encouraging students to make an act of kindness during lunch, for national “No One Eats Alone Day.” Irving School is partnering with Beyond Differences for the day.

No One Eats Alone Day is designed to teach students about social isolation before it leads to bullying, depression or violence, and much of that social isolation happens in the school cafeteria.

“Our third, fourth, and fifth graders will learn about social isolation,” said Jennifer Olson, the School Principal, “and during their lunch they will do activities to encourage students to sit with others and engage in conversation.”

Students will also watch the video “Be the One” from Beyond Differences, a non-profit organization working to end isolation in schools across the country.
