BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) – Former Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim will be officially kicking off his campaign for mayor on Thursday night.
Last week, Ganim filed papers to challenge Mayor Bill Finch.
Ganim was elected to lead the state’s largest city five times, but has been out of elective politics for more than a dozen years after spending seven in federal prison convicted on 16 charges including extortion, bribery, and racketeering while in office. Prior to that, he was considered a potential candidate for governor after bringing Bridgeport back from the edge of bankruptcy and bringing a new ballpark and arena to the city.
Ganim will be kicking off his campaign at 416 Horace Street in Bridgeport at 6p.m Thursday night.
